Travel & places to stay
Afton is in the northeast corner of Tennessee, between Greeneville and Johnson City. If you’re flying, Tri-Cities is the easiest airport. The other two have more flights, but the drive is longer.

What to pack
Early October here usually means afternoons in the low 70s and nights in the upper 40s. The sun sets a little after 7, so bring a jacket or wrap for the evening.
If you’re staying the weekend
Walk around downtown Greeneville or Jonesborough, hike to a waterfall in the Cherokee National Forest near Paint Creek, or drive up toward Roan Mountain to see the leaves changing.
